a love letter to my neighborhood via 7 X 7
May 29th, 2009My dear Lower Pacific Heights,
There was a day, a few years ago, where we thought the bloom was off our rose…We barely tolerated one another each time I passed moody Esmeralda’s ever-smelly shopping cart on the streets around Fillmore. We fought hysterically when Goodwill disappeared from Post and Fillmore. We stopped speaking for weeks after several distressing experiences on the 24 Divisadero bus. I feared we would soon part ways for good.
But, alas, after fourteen years in your embrace, love doesn’t just slip off into a Dogpatch. My rent control apartment in a stunning though frayed Edwardian with instant access to some of the best restaurants and cafes in the city is a relationship worth keeping and appreciating. Chocolate croissants from Boulangerie followed by book canoodling at Browser Books and olive oil tasting at O & Co. will continue to be our favorite afternoon date. Remember our first sloppy date? We hopped amongst the Divisadero bars from Solstice to Lion’s Den to Frankie’s and others whose names escape me now that I’m humble about our love.
Okay, sure, we’ve struggled at times, but after fourteen years, we’re stronger than ever even with so many others having discovered your delights. Let’s go sit high atop the steps at Alta Plaza Park and appreciate the panoramic delights of our existence. Let’s stay together…forever…luv, B
